New group makes networking easy
By Hollie Watson

Achieving success in the business world often means
entrepreneurs have little time left over for themselves.
"Business people tend to be the last ones to go out and
have fun and relax," said Pauline Edward, an astrologer
and professional lecturer. The Roxboro resident is one
of a four-part team of women spearheading a new
organization geared to members of the West Island
business community. They launched Networking+ Plus in
January, which features a slate of educational and
recreational activities members can enjoy in a laidback
and friendly atmosphere.
There are already close to 90 members on board, said
Edward, who is events co-ordinator. Other members of the
leadership team are Betty Shotton, Odile Dobler and
Diane Vandahl, who are all involved in the local
business community. "We understand about networking.
It's the gold mine, the way to go," said Edward. "We're
all making great friendships and good business
referrals." The group meets monthly at the Roxboro
Chalet, starting with a 45-minute presentation and
exchange of business cards. Then members mingle, forging
relationships. Last Monday's meeting featured a talk on
Feng Shui for wealth and prosperity; other topics have
included tax tips, and in May a Professional Trainer
will address the group on Stress Management. In addition
to monthly meetings, which are held from 7:15 to 9:30
p.m., members take part in a variety of activities, from
bowling to pool, to a trip to the Imax. A few weeks ago,
some braved the snowstorm for brunch at Chez la Mère
Tucker. "The idea is to network in a social
environment," Edward said.
The group operates in English. However, Edward said they
would be happy to pass on their formula to anyone who is
interested in starting a similar group for Francophones.
